Anyone who knows me knows that I’m obsessed with food and what foods to try next. Now, I’m not nearly pretentious enough to be considered a “foodie” (I’m more like a human garbage can), but by far one of my favorite things to do when traveling is sampling the cuisine. It just makes me happy; I start dancing and everything!

So naturally, with my trip to Morocco coming up in a few weeks, I’ve started daydreaming about all of the different delicacies I’ll get to try: couscous, mint tea, tagine, falafel, kebabs, baklava –

Sorry; I started drooling, there. I’m better now, I promise.

Anyway, as you can probably tell, I’ve tasted my fair share of unique foods – both good and bad – during my travels. And, as a self-proclaimed food junkie, I want to share some of my favorites with you! Hopefully this will become a series of posts the more I travel, but I shouldn’t get ahead of myself. For now:

Here are 5 foods to try as you travel around the world!

Note: I have no dietary restrictions, so there may be items included on this list that you can’t or prefer not to eat.

1. Kumpir

Kumpir

Kumpir is by far one of the most interesting dishes I’ve ever tried. It’s basically a loaded baked potato, but instead of just bacon and sour cream, you can add on pretty much any toppings you could dream of – red cabbage, ham, chili, and more. And of course it’s gonna be good, because you get to choose your ingredients!

Where you can find it: Kumpir is a popular street food in Turkey; you can find it pretty much anywhere, so just remember keep your eyes peeled!

2. Greek Yogurt & Honey

They say that greek yogurt is much healthier for you than regular, processed yogurt… but why does it have to taste so bitter?! I, personally, find it barely palatable on its own. So how do we fix this problem? By adding stuff to it, of course! And ever since I came back from Greece, my favorite thing to add has been honey; it adds a natural sweetness to the yogurt without being overpowering. So, if you like honey and you like yogurt, try both together!

Where you can find it: This is something that you can make yourself! Just buy a brand of greek yogurt that you like, stir in some honey, maybe add some fruit or granola, and voilà!

3. Florentine Steak

This steak, y’all. This steak. Oh my god. This is the best steak you will ever eat. It’s tender and juicy and flavorful, and it practically melts in your mouth. I’m salivating just thinking about it.

Where you can find it: Florentine steak is offered in tons of fancy restaurants all over the world, but the best way to experience it is to go right to the source – Florence, Italy.

4. Conch

conch

Whether it’s fried fritters, a baked sandwich, or even raw in a salad, you’re likely to come across conch while traveling in the Caribbean. This dish may only be for the more adventurous tourists, seeing as you’re eating sea snails, but it’s actually very delicious! Tastes like chicken… except a little more chewy.

Where you can find it: Conch is served all over the Caribbean, as well as coastal Central America and some parts of East Asia.

5. Black & White Pudding

black and white pudding

Black pudding is a form of blood sausage often found in the British Isles and throughout Europe. Considered a delicacy in many countries, black pudding is made of pork blood & fat mixed with oatmeal, among other ingredients. White pudding is basically the same thing, but without the pork blood. Both are often served as part of a full breakfast. It’s certainly… interesting, and worth trying at least once.

Where you can find it: Blood sausage can be found in pretty much every country in Europe, but black pudding specifically is most often found within Great Britain and Ireland. White pudding is often found in Ireland, Scotland, and a few other countries.

And that’s my list! Have you eaten any of these things? Would you try anything on this list? What are some foods you would recommend? Leave a comment below and let me know!
